Bismillahi Al-Rahman Al-Raheem

Islam demands the Political Unity of this Ummah

Those unto whom the people said “Truly, the people have gathered against you, therefore fear them” But it only increased them in faith (Al-Imran: 173)

The world has witnessed the horrors unleashed by the United States, Britain and their allies upon the Muslims of Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere across the globe under the flag of the war on terror which is known to be a war on Islam. Our Ummah has recognised that part of the objective of this overwhelming violence and colonial occupation was to institutionalise division and intimidate them into helplessness and despair. Yet it has only increased them in belief.

But those who have enmity to Allah and His Messenger   having failed to stem the Islamic revival amongst the Ummah by force have now moved onto the “battle for hearts and minds” – an attempt to tempt and mislead Muslims away from their destiny with sweet words where air strikes and tank munitions have failed.

In their efforts to separate the Muslims from their brethren and their deen, the call for regionalised or ‘nationalised’ Islam is being encouraged. Government backing, financial and otherwise, has been given for the creation of a “British Islam”, as opposed to an “Egyptian Islam” or a “Saudi Islam”. Many such “Islams” are appearing, along national or sectarian lines, with the aim of creating disunity and disinterest amongst Muslims, such that their only concern becomes their own local affairs, minimising and eventually eliminating any feeling of brotherhood with the rest of the Ummah. “British Islam” has originiated from a government whose predecessors divided, colonised and exploited the Ummah for decades during age of empire. This same government continues to be complicit in abuse, torture and death across Muslim lands. So do they imagine that Muslims will accept that Islam to be taught to them by those with such hostile intent?

In truth, despite these both aggressive and devious attempts we have witnessed the love, concern and brotherhood that exist amongst Muslims for one another and their refusal to abandon their deen; their refusal to accept the occupation of Afghanistan and Iraq; their support for those in Lebanon who struggled against the illegal Zionist entity; their hearts yearning for the liberation of Muslim land whether Somalia or Kashmir; their hopes and prayers to see the day that al-Quds will be free and their brethren rescured from the prison that Palestine has become. Muslims have, despite these attempts, refused to abandon their brothers and sisters, and continue to feel the pain of the Ummah just as the Prophet   said:

الْمُسْلِمُونَ كَرَجُلٍ وَاحِدٍ إِنِ اشْتَكَى عَيْنُهُ اشْتَكَى كُلُّهُ وَإِنِ اشْتَكَى رَأْسُهُ اشْتَكَى كُلُّهُ

The Muslims are like one man, if his eye complains (from an ailment) then his whole body complains, and if his head complains his whole body complains (Muslim)

Every Muslim should guard against these divisive plans, not to be deceived by the whispers of the Shaytan who would call us to that which will destroy us both in this life and the next. Those who work to create division will never be satisfied with us until we give up Islam in its entirety, as Allah has mentioned

They wish that you would disbelieve as they have disbelieved in order that you become the same (Al-nisa: 89)

Though it is impossible for this Ummah to remove her contract with Allah from her neck and to turn away from belief in Allah and His Messenger   and all that His Messenger   brought, it is not impossible for this Ummah to remain divided. It is not impossible that others continue to eat from her like a pack of wolves devouring its prey. For, although this Ummah is blessed with resources and great numbers, it has become like the froth of the sea, large in number but without political leadership that binds us together.  Allah SWT warned us of the consequences of this disunity, which we feel the results of each day when He said:

وَالَّذينَ كَفَرُواْ بَعْضُهُمْ أَوْلِيَاء بَعْضٍ إِلاَّ تَفْعَلُوهُ تَكُن فِتْنَةٌ فِي الأَرْضِ وَفَسَادٌ كَبِيرٌ

And those who disbelieve are allies are one another, and if you (Believers) do not do so (unite and help one another in deen) there will be fitna on the Earth and great corruption (Al-Anfal: 73)

Though Muslims care for one another and their unity upon the belief in Islam is growing, the political divisions in this Ummah still remain - divided under the rule of the client regimes created for them by the colonialists and by sectarian differences which they exploit. Muslims in Egypt support the liberation of Palestine, yet the Egyptian army is used to enforce the Zionist blockade on the Palestinian people. Muslims in Pakistan support the resistance in Afghanistan, yet the Pakistani army is used to further the American plan to colonise the region. It is as the ayat says: because of our political disunity, there is huge fitna on the Earth and great corruption across the World in general and in the Muslim lands in particular.
The colonial powers and their agents would have us believe that unity under the flag of the Islam is but a dream. But their attention, actions and words against the idea of Khilafah betray their belief in an imminent revival of the Islamic Ummah of Justice, which would aid the oppressed and stand firm in the face of the oppressor. Yet this is one Ummah, unified on one belief, as Allah has told us

And truly this Ummah of yours is a single Ummah, and I am your Lord so have taqwa (Al-Muminoon: 52)

The desire for Muslims to help their brothers and sisters across the world against the tyranny and oppression that is facing them is a noble one, but it is one that can only be met under the shade of the Khilafah, since the Prophet   specified

Only the Imam is a shield. They fight from behind him and are protected by him (Muslim)

So it is not permitted for the Ummah to only be unified upon her belief while remaining divided politically: as the Prophet ordered his companions to give their allegiance to the Khulafa one after another, and that if two leaders were given allegiance at any one time then the latter should be killed.

The call for the Khilafah is the call for the protection of the Ummah. It is the call for the implementation of Islam based upon political unity in order this Ummah can take its place as witnesses upon mankind. If the Ummah was united under the banner of Islam, the believers would be able to strengthen one another, rather than being like the froth on the sea. The combined land mass, resources and manpower of the Muslims from Pakistan to Egypt to Turkey would be used in order to make the word of Allah and His Messenger   most high, rather than used against the Ummah to support the enemies of Allah and His deen.

This call for unity under the Khilafah, dear brothers and sisters, is a duty upon every believer, which should be raised at every opportunity, until the deen of Allah is re-established on the face of the Earth.

O you who believe – If you help (in the cause of) Allah, He will help you, and make your foothold firm (Muhammad: 7)
